Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 90-92 pts
  • 90-92 Points - Jasper Morris MW: Made from Jane’s usual plots, with 30% whole bunches, one new barrel in five. A lighter crimson purple with the elegant strawberry touch of many a Gevrey-Chambertin, savoury at the back, with a firmness that the fruit can manage. Dark strawberry at the finish. Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted Oct 2023 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir from carefully selected village-level plots in Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte de Nuits.
  • Grown on classic clay-limestone soils, yielding a wine with profound structure and characteristic savory depth.
  • Fermented with 30% whole cluster inclusion to enhance aromatic lift, freshness, and structural complexity.
  • Élevage features maturation in French oak barrels, with 20% new wood (one new barrel in five) to impart subtle spice without masking the vibrant fruit.
  • The 2022 vintage yielded excellent quality with ripe, concentrated fruit balanced by bright acidity, despite early season frost threats.

Tasting Notes

Pours a lighter crimson purple hue in the glass. The nose leads with an elegant bouquet of wild strawberries, subtle spice, and classic Gevrey-Chambertin earthy, savory undertones. On the palate, it delivers a core of pure, dark strawberry fruit balanced by complex, savory notes at the back. Firm but manageable tannins provide excellent structure, driving towards a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red fruit and precise, bright acidity.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 60°F (15°C) in a large Burgundy bowl to allow the delicate aromatics to unfurl beautifully.
  • Decanting: Needs minimal aeration in its youth, though 30 minutes in a decanter will benefit early drinking. Drink from 2027 through 2034 alongside duck or game birds.
