Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 93 pts
  • 93 Points - Jasper Morris MW: Medium plus red purple. 50% whole bunch vinification. One new and one one-year-old out of four barrels. This is full of fruit, and really lifted, caresses the palate, little alpine strawberries with a very long aftertaste. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Dec 2024 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir from the prestigious Les Corbeaux Premier Cru, situated directly adjacent to Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin.
  • Rooted in clay-limestone soils with ancient marl, providing the appellation's signature muscularity, which is brilliantly tempered by the winemaker's delicate touch.
  • Fermented with 40% whole cluster inclusion to enhance aromatic lift, freshness, and structural complexity, using traditional gentle extraction.
  • Élevage in French oak barrels (a micro-production of just 3 barrels, 1 of which is new, equating to 33% new wood) to impart subtle spice without masking the fruit.
  • The cool, low-yielding 2021 vintage produced a classic, energetic expression where bright natural acidity and physiological ripeness achieve perfect harmony.

Tasting Notes

Pours a bright, translucent ruby in the glass. The nose offers immediate elegance, displaying a classy bouquet of wild strawberries, fresh red cherries, and subtle floral tones derived from the whole-bunch fermentation, underpinned by a delicate earthy spice. On the palate, it is exceptionally fine-boned and seamless, perfectly balancing bright, crunchy acidity with ripe, concentrated red fruit. Fine-grained tannins provide structural finesse, driving the wine toward a long, perfumed, and brilliantly fresh finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 60°F (15°C) in a large Burgundy bowl to allow the delicate aromatics to unfurl beautifully.
  • Decanting: Needs minimal aeration in its youth, though 30 minutes in a decanter will benefit early drinking. Pair with roasted duck breast, pigeon, or mushroom risotto. Enjoy from 2026 through 2036.
