Critical Recognition
- 93-96 Points - Jasper Morris MW: 2.5 barrels made from fruit at the top end of Les Corbeaux, adjacent to Mazis-Chambertin. 50% whole bunch with some of the large core of the stems snipped out. Good bright fresh purple colour. Such energy, this is a stunning example of Corbeaux, with a succulence of perfectly judged ripe cherry-raspberry fruit through the middle, and refined tannins. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted Oct 2023 by Jasper Morris MW.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir from the esteemed Les Corbeaux Premier Cru, perfectly situated next to Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin.
- Rooted in clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of marl, contributing to the site's natural power, artfully tamed by the winemaker.
- Typically fermented with partial whole cluster (historically around 30-40%) to infuse aromatic lift, spice, and natural freshness.
- Élevage in French oak barrels (historically a micro-production of around 3 barrels, with roughly 1/3 new wood), adding subtle texture without dominating the fruit.
- The outstanding 2022 vintage yielded beautifully ripe, concentrated fruit while preserving exceptional natural acidity and structural tension.
Tasting Notes
Pours a brilliant crimson-purple in the glass. The nose is incredibly perfumed, delivering a vibrant bouquet of fresh red cherries, wild strawberries, and crushed rose petals, accented by earthy spice and a distinct crushed-stone minerality. On the palate, it is perfectly poised, delivering a concentrated core of red fruit wrapped in fine-grained, seamless tannins. Bright, mouth-watering acidity drives the wine forward into a remarkably long, elegant, and classy finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 60°F (15°C) in a large Burgundy bowl to allow the complex aromatics to fully unfurl.
- Decanting: Needs about 30–45 minutes of aeration if opening in its youth. Best paired with roast duck breast, game birds, or mushroom risotto. Enjoy from 2027 through 2038.
