Violet Perfume, Mulberry Flesh, Savory Grip, and Premier Cru Restraint

Jane Eyre’s 2024 Les Corbeaux Premier Cru is a masterclass in elegance from a challenging vintage. Sitting at the northern edge of the Grand Cru slope, it trades brute force for lithe, violet-laced aromatics and bright mulberry fruit. Supported by 80% whole-cluster fermentation, this Pinot Noir delivers a seamless blend of firm tannins, limestone minerality, and vibrant acidity, showcasing Gevrey-Chambertin’s refined, savory side.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 92 - 93 pts
  • 92 - 93 Points - Jasper Morris MW: 0ne 350 litre barrel, not racked yet. 40% whole bunch with the main stalk cut out. A bright pale garnet to ruby. Very pleasing, delicate bouquet yet this is a wine with a tensile strength on the palate that belies the initial delicacy. A raspberry touch to the fruit. All about the finesse and the persistence. This will fill out more in bottle. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Oct 2025 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir from Les Corbeaux Premier Cru, positioned at the northern edge of the Grand Cru slope as a direct neighbor to Mazis-Chambertin.
  • Cultivated on limestone-clay soils with old vines (over 50 years of age) that naturally restrict yields and produce incredibly flavor-dense crops.
  • Fermented with a high 80% whole-cluster inclusion using native yeasts, providing exceptional aromatic lift, structure, and savory spice.
  • Élevage features gentle extraction followed by 12 months exclusively in used French oak, purposefully avoiding new-wood influence to let the terroir shine.
  • The 2024 growing season challenged Burgundy with relentless rain and weak sunshine, yet Jane Eyre's meticulous sorting yielded fruit of incredible concentration and balance.

Tasting Notes

Pours a brilliant ruby with youthful violet highlights in the glass. The highly aromatic bouquet opens with lifted violet and mulberry perfume, interwoven with earthy spice and a distinct crushed-stone minerality. On the palate, it delivers a taut core of red-berry flesh cradled by firm, mouth-coating tannins and a racy spine of acidity. At a modest 13% alcohol, it remains lithe and savory rather than heavy, finishing with long, elegant limestone tension and classic Gevrey restraint.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 60–64°F (16–18°C) in a large Burgundy bowl to allow the delicate aromatics and violet perfume to fully unfurl.
  • Decanting: A 30-minute decant will beautifully open the aromatics without stripping its elegance. Pair with roasted game, braised beef, mushroom-rich stews, or aged Comté. Drink now for freshness, or cellar confidently for a decade.
