Spiced Strawberries, Savory Depth, Fine Tannins, and 1er Cru Finesse

Jane Eyre’s 2022 Les Arvelets Premier Cru showcases her mastery of extracting elegance from Pommard’s iron-rich soils. Produced in a minuscule two-barrel lot with 20% whole-cluster fermentation, this Pinot Noir leads with beautiful spiced strawberry and cherry aromatics. It trades brute force for a supple, refined texture, offering incredible savory depth and fine-grained tannins that make it approachable yet entirely age-worthy.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 90 pts
  • 90 Points - Jasper Morris MW: Jane’s first vintage of Les Arvelets, which she bottled just before the harvest. A lighter shade of crimson-purple. This has the makings of a very elegant Pommard, almost floral, and kicks on deliciously on the palate. Arvelets is never going to be a heavyweight, so put the old style of Pommard out of your mind and enjoy the floral juicy qualities of this wine. Very nice in this lighter style. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Oct 2023 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from Les Arvelets, a south-facing Premier Cru in Pommard famous for its red, iron-rich clay soils.
  • Typically a terroir that yields robust wines, here it is masterfully handled by Jane Eyre to emphasize perfume and lithe elegance over heavy extraction.
  • Fermented with 20% whole cluster to lift the aromatics and introduce a delicate, savory spice to the pristine fruit.
  • A micro-production of just two barrels, aged in used French oak to preserve the transparent expression of the site.
  • The excellent 2022 vintage yielded beautifully ripe, concentrated fruit while retaining remarkable natural acidity and fine, supple tannins.

Tasting Notes

Pours a pale, luminous ruby in the glass. The nose is inviting and perfumed, revealing attractive aromas of spiced strawberry, ripe red cherries, and a touch of savory earth. On the palate, it is remarkably refined for a Pommard, delivering a supple core of red fruit framed by fine, polished tannins. Bright acidity lifts the mid-palate, leading into a lingering, elegant finish marked by stony minerality and delicate spice.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 60°F (15°C) in a large Burgundy bowl to allow the delicate aromatics to unfurl.
  • Decanting: Needs 30 minutes of aeration in its youth. Pair with roasted duck breast, game birds, or a classic mushroom risotto. Drink from 2026 through 2038.
