White Peach, Zippy Lemon, Fleshy Texture, and Racy Tension

Jane Eyre’s 2023 Santenay Blanc is a lively, refreshing expression of southern Côte de Beaune Chardonnay. Sourced from parcels bordering Chassagne-Montrachet, it balances a subtle, nuanced bouquet with a vibrant, fleshy mid-palate. Driven by zesty, racy acidity and a delicate touch of oak, this beautifully textured white wine offers immediate, easy-drinking appeal and a crisp, mineral-driven finish.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 88 pts
  • 88 Points - Jasper Morris MW: Jane has changed her sources for Santenay and now gets one barrel from Champ Claude and three from a source with mixed vineyards, in must. The bouquet shows a little fruit, while the palate is very much more interesting, adequate flesh, yet more a fresh fruit with nicely balanced acidity to finish. On the racier side. Drink from 2027-2029. Tasted Dec 2024 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay sourced from select village-level parcels located on the Chassagne-Montrachet side of Santenay.
  • Grown on classic limestone and clay-marl soils that naturally impart structural tension and a distinct mineral cut.
  • Jane Eyre employs colder soaks at the start of fermentation for her 2023 whites, helping to preserve aromatic freshness and natural acidity.
  • Élevage in French oak barrels (approximately 25% new wood) builds mid-palate flesh and textural richness without overwhelming the pristine, zippy fruit.
  • The generous 2023 vintage yielded an approachable, easy-drinking style marked by racy acidity and immediate youthful charm.

Tasting Notes

Pours a bright, pale lemon in the glass. The nose is initially understated and elegant, offering subtle hints of crisp green apple, pear, and delicate citrus blossom. On the palate, the wine becomes highly engaging—delivering an attractive, fleshy texture of white peach and lemon curd that is immediately lifted by a racy, mouth-watering spine of acidity. It finishes with a zippy, energetic tension and a clean, mineral-driven cut.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 50–52°F (10–11°C) in a standard white wine glass to preserve its racy freshness and focus.
  • Decanting: Not necessary. Highly approachable in its youth, it pairs perfectly alongside grilled white fish, roast chicken, or a light goat cheese salad. Enjoy from 2025 through 2030.
