Critical Recognition
- 90-93 Points (Top Value) - Burghound: Here too reduction flattens the fruit. More interesting are the attractively textured and rich medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the detailed, youthfully austere and complex finale. This is also very good and I particularly like the balance. Five to eight years should see it at its best.
Highlights
- 100% Chardonnay: Sourced from the estate's flagship 'Les Quarts' climat (subsequently elevated to 1er Cru), home to vines between 45 and 80 years of age.
- Terroir: Grown on an east/south-east facing slope at 250 meters. The soil is Bajocian limestone heavily concentrated with red clay and iron oxide, giving the wine its distinct, austere mineral drive.
- Winemaking: Farmed biodynamically (Demeter-certified). Hand-harvested, whole-cluster pressed, and fermented exclusively with indigenous yeasts to preserve terroir transparency and structural integrity.
- Elevage: Traditionally aged in older French oak pièces, allowing for a slow, natural evolution of texture and complete malolactic fermentation without imparting overt wood flavors.
- Vintage Profile: The 2022 vintage yielded a beautifully balanced wine, pairing rich, medium-weight flavors with a highly detailed, youthfully tight finale that is built for the cellar.
Tasting Notes
Pouring a pale golden hue, the wine initially leads with a firm, savory reduction typical of its protective, natural winemaking. With vigorous swirling, it reveals an attractively textured, rich core of orchard and stone fruit. The mid-palate is beautifully balanced, carrying its medium weight with grace and volume before tapering into a highly detailed, youthfully austere finish. Profound, iron-inflected minerality lingers on the complex, dry finale.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 52-54°F (11-12°C) in a large white Burgundy glass.
- Decanting: Highly recommended to decant for 1 to 2 hours in its youth to resolve the initial reduction. Built to age; five to eight years in the cellar will see it at its absolute best alongside roast poultry or buttery shellfish.
