From Château Ducru-Beaucaillou in Bordeaux’s Haut-Médoc, the Madame de Beaucaillou 2021 is a refined second wine, a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, sourced from 50 hectares of vineyards in Listrac and Cussac on gravelly-clay and limestone soils that capture the appellation’s signature intensity and freshness. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2021 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 12 months' aging in French oak barrels (20% new) to enhance accessibility and finesse. Named after the lineage of female owners at Ducru-Beaucaillou, this production yields a deep ruby wine with vibrant depth and harmonious poise.

Tasting Notes A bold, savory Haut-Médoc with crushed flowers, spice, mint, and orange peel notes, medium-bodied and mouth-filling with gorgeous fruit presence, balanced purity, and a stellar structure from the Borie family. The nose reveals red and black cherries, leafy herbs, damp earth, and flowers. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and balanced, with supple tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of dark berries, rich spices, loamy soil, and tangy acids, leading to a long, charming finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2021 Madame de Beaucaillou earned 91 points from Vinous for its bold savoriness and gorgeous fruit, 90 points from Jeb Dunnuck for its ripe black cherries, spice box, and medium-bodied balance, and praise from Jane Anson for its juicy balance and supple tannins.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with grilled beef, roasted poultry, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2036, developing greater leather and earthy nuances over time.
