This Auslese** Dry (white‑capsule) bottling comes from Bernkasteler Lay, a steep, south‑facing vineyard of weathered slate directly above the town of Bernkastel, known for producing concentrated yet finely etched Rieslings. The Auslese** level indicates late‑harvested, highly ripe grapes selected for extra density and extract, while the dry fermentation pushes the wine into a structurally serious, gastronomic style rather than a sweet dessert expression.
Grapes are hand‑harvested at high must weight, sorted rigorously, then gently pressed and fermented slowly to dryness in stainless steel and large old wooden casks, preserving purity while building textural breadth. Extended ageing on fine lees integrates the pronounced acidity and phenolics, giving the wine its broad, tactile mid‑palate and remarkable length without obvious oak imprint.

Awards and Accolades
Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese** Dry 2019 (white capsule) received 95 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, which highlighted its complexity, balsamic and herbaceous aromatics, slate and incense notes, and broad yet precise palate. Falstaff also rated the wine highly, praising its complete, complex bouquet and delicate phenolic structure with a penetrating tactile finish. These scores place the wine firmly in the top tier of dry Mosel Rieslings from the vintage.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 10–12°C in medium‑sized white‑wine glasses, and consider decanting for around 30 minutes to let the balsamic, herbal and slate notes fully emerge. This dry Auslese pairs particularly well with rich seafood (such as lobster or scallops), roasted poultry, pork with herbs, veal, and complex vegetable dishes, and it can be cellared 15–20 years or more, gaining tertiary notes of smoke, wax, dried herbs and honey while retaining its mineral spine.
