Markus Molitor Riesling Qualitätswein Haus Klosterberg Off Dry 2023 is a lively Mosel Riesling that balances bright citrus and green-apple fruit with a gentle touch of natural sweetness. Light to medium in body, it shows crisp acidity, subtle stone-fruit notes and a clean, slate-tinged finish that makes it versatile at the table. Serve at 8–10°C; enjoy now for its youthful vibrancy or over the next 5–7 years as it gains a little more honeyed and floral complexity.

This off-dry Riesling comes from Markus Molitor’s home base around the Mosel, where steep, slate-rich slopes and a cool climate produce grapes with intense aromatics and naturally high acidity. The 2023 Haus Klosterberg Off Dry is conceived as an introduction to the estate’s style, showing clear fruit, moderate alcohol and a precise interplay of sweetness and freshness typical of Mosel Riesling.

Grapes are gently pressed and fermented mainly in stainless steel to preserve primary fruit and clarity, with a short period on fine lees to round the texture without masking the wine’s crisp profile. A modest amount of residual sugar is retained, giving the wine its off-dry character while the acidity keeps the palate lively and refreshing rather than soft.

Tasting Notes

  • Aromas of lime, lemon zest and green apple, supported by hints of pear, white peach and spring flowers.

  • Juicy citrus and stone-fruit flavors on the palate, with a touch of sweetness balanced by tangy acidity and a subtle impression of wet slate.

  • A clean, mouthwatering finish, leaving notes of lime, crunchy apple and light mineral spice.

Awards and Accolades
Specific major-critic scores for the 2023 Off Dry bottling may not yet be widely published, but the Haus Klosterberg Riesling line is generally regarded as a high-value introduction to Markus Molitor’s range. Enthusiasts often praise these wines for their clarity, balance of sweetness and acidity, and faithful expression of Mosel character at an accessible level.

Serving and Cellaring
Serve chilled at 8–10°C; a brief time in the glass helps reveal more stone-fruit and floral nuances. This off-dry Riesling pairs well with lightly spicy Asian dishes, sushi, pork or poultry with subtle sauces, salads with citrus dressings, and soft cheeses such as young goat’s cheese; it can be enjoyed now or cellared for around 5–7 years to gain gentle honeyed and herbal complexity.
