Terroir, History & Acclaim
- 89–91 Points - Allen Meadows (Burghound): Here the herbal tea component is relatively pronounced on the airy and wonderfully fresh nose of red cherry, raspberry and cool floral scents. The racy, delicious and refined medium weight flavors conclude in a moderately austere, firm and lingering finish that could also use better depth.
- The "Les Sentiers" Premier Cru Terroir: Situated on the northern boundary of Chambolle-Musigny, directly below the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares. The parcel features very shallow, stony clay-limestone soils over solid rock, combining the floral grace of Chambolle with the structure, depth, and muscle reminiscent of its grand cru neighbor.
- Frédéric Magnien’s Biodynamic & Amphora Craft: Certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter), the domaine farms with obsessive care. Winemaking utilizes gentle extractions, native yeasts, and an innovative aging regimen splitting maturation between seasoned oak casks and terracotta clay amphorae, ensuring total fruit purity without new oak interference.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir from the premier cru "Les Sentiers," bordering Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares.
- Certified biodynamic viticulture with partial aging in terracotta amphorae for unmasked fruit purity.
- A classically taut, mineral-driven 2021 Burgundy; prime drinking window 2027 through 2038+.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant ruby with crimson highlights, it opens with pure, lifted aromas of fresh red cherries, wild raspberries, and crushed violet petals, intertwined with nuances of damp chalk, tea leaves, and exotic spice. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and precise, displaying crunchy red berry fruit over a framework of chalky, fine-grained tannins and energetic acidity that leads to a long, tensile, and beautifully focused mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 15–17°C in wide Burgundy stems.
- Decanting: Decant for 45 to 60 minutes if enjoying in its youth. Best enjoyed from 2027 through 2038+.
