Crisp Orchard Fruit, White Flowers, Lively Tension, and Chalonnaise Minerality

The 2021 Olivier Leflaive Montagny 1er Cru "Bonneveaux" is a bright, energetic Chardonnay from the Côte Chalonnaise. Reflecting the cool, classic 2021 vintage, it offers vibrant aromas of green apple, lemon zest, white peach, and spring blossoms. Medium-bodied and tensile, it balances crisp orchard fruit with a subtle touch of oak texture and racy limestone acidity, finishing clean, mouth-watering, and beautifully mineral.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay sourced from "Bonneveaux," a respected Premier Cru lieu-dit in the Montagny appellation (Côte Chalonnaise), prized for yielding wines of excellent tension and crystalline purity.
  • Planted on classic Bajocian marly-limestone soils, which impart the signature flinty, chalky character that defines the best wines of Montagny.
  • Vinified by the Olivier Leflaive team, with pressing and fermentation carefully managed to preserve the delicate floral and citrus aromatics native to the terroir.
  • Aged for approximately 10 to 12 months in a combination of stainless steel vats and French oak barrels (around 10–15% new) to build subtle mid-palate texture without masking the vibrant fruit.
  • From the cool, classical 2021 Burgundy vintage; showcases mouth-watering acidity, lower alcohol, and a highly refreshing return to a lean, tensile style.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold with brilliant green reflections. The nose is highly expressive and fresh, leaping from the glass with notes of crisp green apple, Meyer lemon, and white peach, intertwined with white acacia flowers, crushed chalk, and a faint hint of toasted almond. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully focused, driven by a spine of racy limestone acidity. The pure citrus and orchard fruit core is complemented by a delicate lees texture, leading to a long, saline, and mouth-watering finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve chilled at 10–12°C in standard white Burgundy stemware.
  • Decanting: Pop and pour, or allow 10 minutes in the glass to open up the aromatics. Pairs exceptionally well with fresh goat cheese (such as Crottin de Chavignol), oysters on the half shell, pan-seared scallops, or a classic sole meunière. Optimal drinking window now through 2029.
