From Cantine San Marzano in Italy's Primitivo di Manduria DOC, the Sessantanni 60 Old Vines 2019 is a refined 100% Primitivo sourced from ungrafted vines over 60 years old trained in the traditional alberello bush style on red, iron-rich loamy soils that impart intense concentration and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2019 vintage—characterized by warm, dry conditions yielding ripe yet vibrant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months' aging in French and American oak barrels to enhance complexity and silkiness. As the cooperative's flagship since 2000, this production yields a deep ruby red wine with garnet edges and profound depth.

Tasting Notes A full-bodied, velvety Primitivo with vibrant prune and cherry jam aromas, layered with tobacco and black pepper, unfolding into cocoa, coffee, and vanilla on the long, elegant finish. The nose reveals mulberry, plum, and hints of tobacco and vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied and harmonious, with velvety, ripe tannins and flavors of dark cherry, licorice, and mineral earthiness, leading to a long, persistent finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2019 Sessantanni earned 94 points from James Suckling for its fine structure and vibrant polish.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 45-60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with grilled lamb, roasted beef, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2040, developing greater leather and earthy nuances over time.
