Critical Recognition
- 91-94 Points - Jasper Morris MW: A pinkish purple, as usual on the lighter and more elegant side. Slightly drier wood effect at the finish, and though it seems less intense than the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes, at the finish the fruit extends much further. Floral, elegant, balanced. Drink from 2030-2036. (Tasted Nov 2023)
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir: Sourced from the intimate 3.2-hectare 'Les Corbeaux' Premier Cru, which directly borders the prestigious Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru.
- Terroir: Clay-marl and limestone soils with crinoidal limestone bedrock, combined with cool winds funneling through the Combe de Lavaux, impart freshness and delicate elegance over sheer power.
- Winemaking: Continuing the meticulous tradition of the estate under Karine Sérafin and Frédérique Goulley, the fruit is 100% destemmed and fermented exclusively with native yeasts.
- Elevage: The wine undergoes a highly traditional aging process in a generous proportion of new French oak. It is left untouched on the lees without racking, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
- Vintage Profile: The 2022 vintage yielded a wine that favors floral elegance and balance over dense concentration, displaying a lighter, pinkish-purple hue but remarkable finishing length.
Tasting Notes
Pouring a translucent, pinkish-purple hue, this Pinot Noir leads with an immediately floral and highly elegant bouquet. On the palate, it intentionally steps away from dense extraction, offering a sophisticated array of bright red cherry and savory earth tones. While a structural, slightly drier oak influence frames the finish, the pristine core of fruit pushes past it, extending impressively long. The resulting wine is seamlessly balanced, prioritizing finesse and requiring a little patience in the cellar to harmonize.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 58-60°F (14-16°C) in a large Burgundy balloon glass to elevate the floral aromatics.
- Decanting: Decant for 1 to 2 hours if opened in its youth to allow the wood tannins to soften and integrate. Ideal for the cellar; best enjoyed between 2030 and 2036 alongside roasted quail or earthy mushroom dishes.
