Collection: Serafin

History
Domaine Christian Sérafin (also known as Sérafin Père & Fils) was founded in 1947 in Gevrey-Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, by Polish immigrant Stanislaus Serafin, who arrived in the late 1930s, survived WWII as a prisoner, and began acquiring vineyard parcels after working for local growers. His son Christian joined in 1957, building the estate house and cellars, expanding to about 6 hectares of prime sites including 1er Cru Les Corbeaux, Lavaux Saint-Jacques, and Combottes. Today, third-generation Karine Sérafin and family manage the domaine, upholding its reputation as a top Gevrey producer through meticulous farming and small yields.

Viticulture Philosophy
Sustainable practices on limestone soils emphasize old vines, low yields, and hand-harvesting to capture Gevrey's structured Pinot Noir character from steep Premier Cru slopes. The approach prioritizes terroir transparency, vine balance, and resilience, reflecting the family's perseverance in Burgundy's challenging climate.

Winemaking Techniques
Whole-cluster fermentation with gentle extraction, followed by 12-18 months aging in French oak (20-40% new), yields concentrated yet elegant reds highlighting site-specific fruit, earth, and minerality; minimal intervention preserves vibrancy.

Critics and Journalist Praises
Sérafin excels in Gevrey's depth and finesse, praised for mature berries, warm earth, anise, and persistent length in Corbeaux, with fine tannins and wild savoriness earning acclaim as benchmark Cote de Nuits values. Critics note its power, clarity, and aging potential rivaling top neighbors.
