Named after the San Lorenzo valley that fronts the historic villas at Castello di Ama, this Gran Selezione is sourced from the estate’s best parcels in Bellavista, La Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni at 450–550 m elevation. The 2011 vintage was a warm, solar year that produced particularly ripe fruit; the wine blends predominantly Sangiovese with smaller portions of Merlot and Malvasia Nera, then ages in small oak to integrate its generous fruit, polished tannins and fresh acidity into a complex, long‑lived Chianti Classico expression.
Tasting Notes
The 2011 San Lorenzo shows ripe nuances of strawberry, black fruits and prune, with a riper, almost jammy quality of fruit compared with the estate’s Bellavista. The nose brings wild red berries, soil and dried fruit, with floral and earthy notes; on the palate it is full‑bodied, with juicy black cherry and raspberry, orange peel, anise and grilled herb, supported by firm, fine‑grained tannins and a fresh, energetic finish.

Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 16–18 °C in a large red (Chianti/Burgundy) glass, ideally after decanting to soften the still‑firm 2011 tannins. It is well suited to hearty Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, game, roasted lamb and aged pecorino, and has the structure to continue evolving positively in bottle for many years from vintage.
