Terroir & Estate Craft
- The Rugged Corbières Terroir: Located near Narbonne in the heart of the Fontfroide hills. The estate covers an ancient 550-hectare wild domain where 167 hectares of vines are nestled among pine forests and scrubland. The poor, well-draining soils consist of sandstone, limestone, and sandy marl, creating optimal conditions for Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Carignan to develop rich aromatic concentration tempered by cool coastal Mediterranean sea breezes.
- Lafite’s Southern Renaissance: Acquired in 1999 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Château Lafite Rothschild), Château d’Aussières underwent an extensive historical restoration and vine-replanting program. Serving as the estate’s second wine, "Blason d’Aussières" is designed to highlight supple fruit roundness and immediate charm, vinified with a combination of traditional maceration and partial carbonic maceration for Carignan, matured primarily in stainless steel vats with a small portion in seasoned French oak.
Highlights
- Classic Mediterranean blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Carignan from Corbières.
- Produced by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Château Lafite Rothschild).
- A vibrant, fruit-expressive 2023 vintage; prime drinking window now through 2029+.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple with violet reflections, it opens with generous aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, and wild plums, complemented by herbal garrigue notes of rosemary, wild thyme, black licorice, and cracked pepper. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, fleshy, and supple, delivering a ripe core of dark berry fruit framed by smooth, fine-grained tannins and balanced Mediterranean freshness, concluding on a clean, harmonious, and gently spiced finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 16–18°C in standard Bordeaux or Syrah glassware.
- Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute aeration in the glass allows its dark fruit and garrigue perfume to fully express themselves. Best enjoyed now through 2029+.
