From Champagne Drappier in the village of Urville within the Aube subregion, the Coteaux Champenois Permission Rouge de Pinot Noir 2020 is a refined 100% Pinot Noir sourced from a single organic parcel on Kimmeridgian limestone soils, selected for its exceptional concentration and aging potential. Hand-harvested grapes from the warm yet balanced 2020 vintage—marked by ripe fruit and preserved acidity—undergo full destemming, cold soak, fermentation in open-top vats with manual punch-downs, and 18 months’ aging in French oak barrels (20% new) to enhance structure and complexity. As a rare still red from the Champagne region, this limited “Permission” cuvée yields a deep ruby wine with vibrant intensity and graceful evolution.

Tasting Notes An elegant, structured red with ripe cherry and mineral finesse, reflecting Urville’s limestone terroir. The nose reveals blackberry, dark cherry, violet, and hints of graphite, smoked herbs, and wet stone. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and poised, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of red plum, licorice, and chalky minerality, leading to a long, refined finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2020 Permission Rouge de Pinot Noir earned 92 points from James Suckling for its pure fruit and elegant depth.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 14-16°C with 45-60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted duck, truffle-infused dishes, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2038, developing profound leather and earthy complexity over time.
