(Wine Advocate Score 89) The 2014 Cos Labory is always rather demeaned during en primeur, however, this vintage showed promise when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a clean graphite and scorched earth-scented bouquet that is correct, but is missing the complexity and tension of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity, actually showing more potential than the nose with commendable purity on the finish. If the aromatics just evolve more personality, this will be a respectable Cos-Labory.

Château Cos Labory Saint-Estèphe 2014

From Château Cos Labory in Bordeaux’s Saint-Estèphe, the 2014 vintage is a refined blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc from an 18-hectare vineyard on gravel and limestone soils. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak barrels, it offers a deep ruby hue with vibrant complexity.

Tasting Notes

A firm, structured red with bold fruit and earthy depth, showcasing Saint-Estèphe’s terroir.
The nose reveals blackberry, cassis, and graphite, with hints of cedar and black pepper. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, with dark tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of spice, earth, and a long, persistent finish.

Awards and Accolades

The 2014 Château Cos Labory Saint-Estèphe earned 90 points from Wine Enthusiast for its finely judged structure and 88.7 points from CellarTracker for its bright, earthy profile.

Food Pairings

Pair this red with Western dishes like grilled steak or lamb chops to highlight its bold fruit and tannins. For Chinese cuisine, try 紅燒牛腩, 烤鴨, 蒜蓉炒牛肉, 黑椒牛柳, 燉羊肉, or 香辣雞丁 to complement its rich texture and savory notes. Ideal for hearty dinners or gatherings.

Serving and Cellaring

Serve at 16°C with one hour of decanting to enhance aromas. Enjoy now or cellar until 2026 for added complexity, developing cedar and tobacco notes. Explore our Saint-Estèphe collection for more Bordeaux classics.
