Terroir & Winemaking
- The Glacial Gravels of "Otira": Named after the Otira geological formation, this single-vineyard cuvée is grown on ancient, free-draining glacial gravels and river stones. The low-vigor soil forces deep root exploration, yielding a Sauvignon Blanc defined by laser-like linearity, flinty minerality, and chiseled acidity rather than simple overt tropical fruit.
- French Heritage by Famille Bourgeois: Established by the famous Famille Bourgeois of Sancerre, Clos Henri combines centuries of French winemaking tradition with Marlborough’s extraordinary climate. Organically farmed at high vine density, the grapes are fermented with native yeasts and aged on fine lees to craft a wine of European elegance and New Zealand vibrancy.
Highlights
- 100% Sauvignon Blanc organically farmed on single-vineyard glacial gravel soils in the Southern Valleys, Marlborough.
- A radiant 2025 release delivering citrus blossom, lime zest, and intense flinty river-stone minerality.
- Crafted by Clos Henri, the Marlborough estate of the legendary Sancerre producer Famille Bourgeois.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Pale straw-yellow with brilliant light-green highlights.
- Nose: Pure, focused, and mineral-driven. It opens with bright aromas of kaffir lime leaf, Meyer lemon zest, and white peach, accompanied by crushed river stones, gunflint, and delicate lemongrass.
- Palate: Bone-dry, medium-bodied, and precise. The entry delivers a concentrated wave of citrus and white orchard fruit sap, propelled by electric acidity into a textured mid-palate and concluding with a long, mouth-watering saline finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve cool at 10–12°C to allow its fine mineral texture and flinty aromatics to uncoil fully.
- Decanting: A short 15-minute decant or aeration helps unlock its flinty aromatics. Best enjoyed now through 2031+.
- Western Pairing: Fresh oysters on the half shell, pan-seared sea bass, goat cheese crostini, or grilled asparagus salad.
- Asian Pairing: Steamed whole fish with ginger and spring onions, Thai green papaya salad, fresh Vietnamese summer rolls, or dim sum.
