From Domaine Vacheron in France's Sancerre appellation, the Les Romains 2022 is a refined 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from 40-year-old vines on a single 1.5-hectare parcel of Kimmeridgian limestone soils in the Les Romains lieu-dit, featuring southeast-facing slopes at 250 meters elevation that impart exceptional tension and purity. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2022 vintage—characterized by cool nights yielding vibrant acidity and concentration—undergo gentle pneumatic pressing, static settling, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by 6 months' aging on fine lees without malolactic to preserve freshness. Certified organic and biodynamic since 2005 under brothers Jean-Baptiste and Géraud Vacheron, this production yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and remarkable finesse.
Tasting Notes An elegant, precise white with vibrant citrus and flinty minerality, reflecting Sancerre's Kimmeridgian terroir. The nose unveils grapefruit zest, white flowers, and hints of wet stone and herbs. On the palate, it is light- to medium-bodied and focused, with bright acidity, fine texture, and flavors of lemon pith, green apple, and chalky salinity, leading to a long, tense finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2022 Les Romains earned 94 points from Vinous for its vibrant aromatics and precise structure.
Serving and Cellaring Serve chilled at 8-10°C without decanting to preserve freshness. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with shellfish, goat cheese, or herb-infused salads. Enjoy now through 2032, during which it will develop subtle honeyed and herbal nuances.
