Elegant, Fruit-Forward, and Deeply Earth-Driven

Crafted under the direction of renowned winemaker Peter Sisseck (creator of Pingus), this vintage represents a communal project to safeguard and honor the old, head-trained vineyards of Ribera del Duero. The 2022 release stands out for its fresh, energetic, and deeply fruit-driven profile, steering clear of heavy oak saturation. Crunchy black fruit, dark plum, and touches of black licorice dominate the palate, held together by exceptionally fine, chalky tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that ensures excellent fluidity.

Expert Tasting Notes & Estate Reputation

  • 94 Points – Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bottled 2022 PSI follows the character of the sample I tasted last year: it's clean, expressive and open. It's perfumed, elegant, floral and quite attractive and does not transmit any heat. In fact, it has contained ripeness and around 13.8% alcohol. They have improved the selection tremendously, and the wine has gained in precision; it's better each year. There is something that reminds me of the old vintages of Pesquera (1994 and before), with notes of orange peel and aromatic herbs. It's medium-bodied, has fine tannins and very good freshness. Only 20% of the volume matured in barrel and the rest in large oak vats (2,000-, 5,000- and 10,000-liter ones), and the élevage is quite respectful of the wine. This should be readily available, as they produced 360,000 bottles in 2022. It's detailed and hand-crafted, real wine in good volume, coming from 700 plots of old vines, all in all around 8% Garnacha. Despite the conditions of the year, this has to be one of the finest vintages of PSI."
  • The Philosophy Behind PSI: Envisioned by Peter Sisseck and Pablo de Castro, PSI was launched to protect the old, heritage bush vines of Ribera del Duero by supporting local independent growers. Moving away from the concentrated oak focus of Pingus or Flor de Pingus, PSI focuses on an open, fruit-forward, and aerial expression of the terroir, limiting new oak barrels to allow the unadorned character of the soils to speak clearly.

Highlights

  • A meticulous blend composed primarily of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), elevated by a small percentage of Garnacha sourced from old, low-yielding bush vineyards.
  • Vinified with native wild yeasts and managed with restrained macerations in concrete and stainless steel tanks to emphasize agility over heavy extraction.
  • Aged predominantly in large neutral wooden foudres and concrete vats, avoiding the strong vanilla and coconut notes brought by new small oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep ruby red with shimmering violet hues at the edge.
  • Nose: Intensely fragrant and clean, bursting with ripe blackberry, dark plum, violets, and black licorice, grounded by a subtle, dusty mineral hint of damp earth and delicate baking spice.
  • Palate: Juicy, smooth, and impressively fluid on entry. This medium-to-full-bodied red moves across the palate with striking speed thanks to its crisp acidity. Focused dark fruit flavors are held by a core of fine-grained, chalky tannins, leading into a long, clean, and remarkably savory finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at a cool room temperature of 15–16°C. Its underlying freshness will perform best when kept away from excessive heat.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute decant allows the tight floral notes to open up and rounds out the initial structural tension. Built to enjoy immediately or cellar over the next 5–8 years.
  • Western Pairing: Complements traditional wood-roasted lamb, grilled lamb chops with rosemary, seared duck breast, or semi-cured sheep's milk cheeses.
  • Asian & Cantonese Pairing: The smooth tannin profile and vibrant fruit acidity neatly cut through rich textures and sweet glazes. It pairs reliably well with 蜜汁叉燒 (Honey Glazed Char Siu Pork), 脆皮燒肉 (Crispy Pork Belly / Siu Yuk), or a savory 啫啫滑雞煲 (Sizzling Chicken Claypot with Shallots and Soy Sauce).
