Monolithic, Deeply Complex, and a Modern Classic

Hailing from a legendary, gravelly alluvial fan in Calistoga, the Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is highly prized for its intellectual depth, structural detail, and restraint. The near-perfect 2018 vintage—celebrated across Napa Valley for its cool, exceptionally steady growing season—allowed the estate to craft a textbook expression of this historic site. It opens with pristine, concentrated aromas of black currants, wild blackberries, and crushed volcanic rock, seamlessly intertwined with signature notes of graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle French oak spice. Full-bodied yet remarkably light on its feet, this wine balances its deep, focused core with fine-grained, architectural tannins and a long, energetic, mineral-driven finish built for decades of cellaring.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
Robert Parker [99] pts
James Suckling [99] pts
  • 99 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The very deep, purple-black colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It takes a fair amount of swirling to unlock an incredibly intense nose of dark chocolate, warm cassis, baked plums and Morello cherries plus touches of red roses, violets, pencil shavings, cinnamon stick and dusty soil with a hint of iron ore. The full-bodied palate is so exquisitely elegant, charged with electric black and red fruits and a firm frame of super-ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing very long and very perfumed. This is pure energy in a glass!"
  • 99 Points - James Suckling: "Blackberry, dried-blueberry, bitter-chocolate and some volcanic-ash and burnt-orange aromas. Crushed stone and subtle vanilla notes, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins framing a deep core of dark fruit. Dense, muscular and firmly structured. So long. Goes on for minutes. Elegance with power. Really love the beautiful refinement and integrity to this. Captures the essence of the vintage. Try from 2025."
  • The Singular Terroir: Tucked into the foothills of the Palisades range in northern Napa Valley, the Eisele Vineyard spans an alluvial fan dominated by volcanic gravel, cobbles, and stones. This exceptionally well-drained soil limits vine vigor naturally, yielding small berries with intense skins and an unmistakable ink-and-iron minerality.
  • Biodynamic Purity under French Guidance: Managed by Latour-owner François Pinault’s Artémis Domaines since 2013, the property relies completely on certified biodynamic farming methods. This focus on natural soil ecology allows the winemaking team to extract high native definition and stunning aromatic precision from the site.

Highlights

  • A monumental blend of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot from the iconic Eisele Vineyard.
  • 100% certified organic and biodynamic viticulture under world-class French-led technical stewardship.
  • Aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels from select elite coopers, expertly smoothing the vintage's formidable tannic core.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep, completely opaque ink ruby red with a bright neon-magenta rim.
  • Nose: Aristocratic, layered, and strictly focused, opening with aromas of pure cassis, black cherry, and crushed volcanic rock, seamlessly interwoven with classic nuances of graphite, tobacco leaf, dried sage, and a faint kiss of dark cacao.
  • Palate: Strictly bone-dry and full-bodied. The entry is expansive yet remarkably vertical, carrying deep, savory layers of black orchard fruits. The mid-palate reveals an exceptional architectural core where dense, chiseled limestone tannins and a pristine line of natural acidity frame the intense, cool-vintage concentration, leading into a long, beautifully energetic and mineral-laden finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at cellar-cool room temperature (16–18°C). Keeping it fresh focuses the deep aromatic detail and keeps the powerful structure balanced.
  • Decanting: Given the massive, tightly coiled layout of this 2018 vintage, a 2-hour decant is highly recommended if enjoying any time soon. This historic bottling is built with an incredible, slow-maturing core built to evolve gracefully in the cellar through 2045–2055.
  • Western Pairing: Prime dry-aged ribeye steak, roasted rack of lamb with rosemary, venison loin with berry reduction, or slow-braised beef cheeks.
  • Asian Pairing: Slow-braised pork belly (東坡肉), premium stir-fried beef cubes with black pepper, or roasted Peking Duck (北京烤鴨).
