From Domaine Henri Bourgeois, a family estate spanning ten generations in France’s Sancerre appellation, the Sancerre Blanc ES-56 2022 is a refined 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from old vines on flinty slopes in Saint-Satur, historically cultivated by the monks of Saint-Satur, where Eocene silex soils from 56 million years ago impart profound minerality and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2022 vintage—marked by warm days and cool nights yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo cold settling, with partial fermentation in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels from the Tronçais forest, followed by 7-8 months' lees aging with periodic bâtonnage to enhance texture and complexity. Committed to sustainable viticulture with organic practices, this production yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and exceptional aging potential.

Tasting Notes An elegant, mineral-driven white with vibrant citrus and flinty intensity, reflecting Sancerre’s Eocene silex terroir. The nose unveils gunflint, spices, dried lemon, and hints of leaves and Sauvignon flower. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and poised, with bright acidity, steely texture, and flavors of orchard fruit, quince, and chalky minerality, leading to a long, focused finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2022 Sancerre Blanc ES-56 earned 93 points from James Suckling for its precise liveliness and mineral character, 92 points from Wine Spectator for its rich orchard fruit and elegant subtlety, and #80 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2024.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 10-12°C with 20-30 minutes of chilling to accentuate aromas. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with shellfish, lightly spiced fish, or goat cheese. Enjoy now through 2034, during which it will develop enhanced honeyed and nutty nuances.
