From Champagne Henriot in France's Champagne region, the Cuvée Hemera Brut 2013 is a meticulously crafted 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir blend sourced exclusively from the six founding Grand Cru villages of the house—Avize, Chouilly, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for Chardonnay, and Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay, and Verzy for Pinot Noir—on chalky soils that impart finesse and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the exceptional 2013 vintage—marked by a challenging year yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo gentle pressing and primary fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by secondary fermentation in bottle via the traditional method and extended lees aging of at least 10 years before disgorgement in November 2023 to develop profound complexity and creaminess. With a low dosage of 3.5 g/L, this prestige cuvée—renamed from Cuvée des Enchanteleurs in honor of the goddess of light—emphasizes purity and the Henriot house style of richness and elegance, yielding a golden sparkling wine with persistent fine mousse and remarkable vibrancy.
Tasting Notes A wonderfully expressive vintage Champagne with a nose of sourdough, acacia, citrus peel, apricots, and honeycomb, exploding on the palate with mouthwatering acidity, tension, and tight bubbles that drive forward with energy. The nose exudes ripe raspberry, fresh bread, and subtle vanilla with floral and citrus notes. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and harmonious, with vibrant acidity, delicate creaminess, and flavors of citrus, baked apple, and toasted almonds, leading to a long, balanced finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2013 Cuvée Hemera Brut earned 96 points from James Suckling for its wonderfully expressive nose and explosive palate with mouthwatering acidity and energy, and 93 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate for its graphite, fennel, citrus, and macaron bouquet with sapid, long, mineral flavors.
Serving and Cellaring Serve chilled at 8-10°C without decanting to preserve effervescence. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, poultry, or soft cheeses. Enjoy now through 2040, during which it will develop enhanced autolytic and nutty nuances.
