Critical Recognition
-
98 Points - James Suckling: This is really something. So much intensity and length, showing fine bubbles that run the length of the wine with sliced dried apples, nutmeg, cloves and white pepper. Medium-bodied. Extremely long and very chardonnay-driven in a great vintage. A blend of 70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. Dosage 6 g/L. Drink or hold.
Highlights
- Flagship prestige cuvée blended predominantly from Chardonnay (approx. 56%) and Pinot Noir (44%) sourced strictly from 100% Grand Cru villages.
- Chardonnay sourced from legendary Côte des Blancs crus (Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) and Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims (Verzenay, Bouzy).
- Vinified under Lanson's historic non-malolactic philosophy, delivering unmatched structural tension, crystalline purity, and multi-decade aging potential.
- Matured for more than 10 years on lees in the Maison’s deep underground chalk crayères in Reims before disgorgement.
- From the monumental, highly celebrated 2012 Champagne vintage; prime drinking window now through 2045+.
Tasting Notes
Luminous pale gold with shimmering green reflections and an exceptionally fine, continuous bead, it opens with pure, expansive aromas of candied lemon peel, yellow orchard apples, and white peach, seamlessly layered with fresh brioche, toasted hazelnuts, honey blossom, and crushed chalk. The palate is medium-bodied, tensile, and aristocratic, carrying deep citrus and stone fruit complexity along a spine of laser-sharp, non-malolactic acidity, concluding on a persistent, mouth-watering, and distinctly saline mineral finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve chilled at 10–12°C in wide tulip Champagne glasses or standard white wine stems rather than narrow flutes.
- Decanting: Aeration in the glass allows its layered autolytic depth and vibrant Grand Cru fruit to unfurl gracefully. Peak drinking window now through 2045+.
