From Lawson's Dry Hills in New Zealand’s Marlborough, the Pinot Gris 2021 is a refined 100% Pinot Gris sourced from the estate's vineyards on alluvial gravel and clay-loam soils in the Wairau Valley that capture the region's cool maritime influences for vibrancy and texture. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2021 vintage—characterized by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo gentle pressing and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity, with no oak contact to emphasize clean, varietal character. Committed to sustainable viticulture since 1978, this production yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and remarkable approachability.
Tasting Notes A textural, off-dry Marlborough Pinot Gris with aromas of Asian pears and mandarins, delivering bright acidity, chalky minerality, and a fresh, giving palate. The nose reveals Asian pear and mandarin with subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with bright acidity, fine texture, and flavors of pear, citrus, and chalk, leading to a clean, lingering finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2021 Pinot Gris earned 91 points from James Suckling for its textural palate with bright acidity and chalky notes.
Serving and Cellaring Serve chilled at 8-10°C without decanting to preserve vibrancy. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, light salads, or poultry. Enjoy now through 2028, during which it will develop subtle honeyed nuances.
