Crafted from old vines in Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards by Domaine Sérafin Père & Fils, using traditional methods of hand-harvest, gentle extraction in concrete or stainless, and 12-18 months aging in French oak barrels (higher new oak proportion for villages cuvées). The 2013 reflects a cool, difficult growing season yielding structured, age-worthy wines at around 13% alcohol with pronounced tannic scaffolding and rusticity.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby hue; nose of black cherries, blackberries, raspberries, and gamey notes. Denser and more powerful palate with saturated black cherry and boysenberry fruit, robust mouth-coating texture, pronounced rusticity, and an impressively persistent finish marked by tannic firmness.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 15-17°C in a Burgundy glass; decant 1-2 hours. Drink from 2026-2035+ as it softens and develops tertiary complexity; pairs with game, roast duck, or braised beef.
