Rising dramatically across the Mosel river from St. Urbans-Hof is the Laurentiuslay hill. The Weis family has farmed this hill for over a century. The German word 'lay' is local dialect for 'slate'. The dark stony soil absorbs the excess heat during the day and releases it during the cool nights, which helps the ripening. The slopes face south/southwest offering the vines maximum exposure to the sun. Roundness, full bodied, and spicy minerality are hallmark characteristics of this site.
