From Domaine Stéphane Ogier in France’s Collines Rhodaniennes IGP, just south of Côte-Rôtie, the La Rosine Syrah 2022 is a refined 100% Syrah sourced from 20- to 30-year-old vines on decomposed granitic soils that impart elegance and vibrancy. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2022 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats with partial whole-cluster inclusion, followed by 12 months' aging in French oak barrels (20-30% new) to enhance structure and finesse. As a declassified Côte-Rôtie expression from a domaine with roots in Ampuis since the 1980s, this production emphasizes organic practices, yielding a deep ruby wine with garnet edges and poised intensity.
Tasting Notes An elegant, vibrant red with ripe black berries and floral lift, reflecting Collines Rhodaniennes' granitic terroir. The nose reveals black raspberry, cassis, violet, and hints of peppery herbs and camphor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and poised, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of dark cherry, licorice, and subtle graphite minerality, leading to a long, silky finish.
Awards and Accolades 91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Another superb value from Stephane Ogier, crafted from vines planted on the commune of Turpin on granite soils, the 2022 La Rosine Syrah offers up aromas of Timut pepper, violets, mulberries and dark berries mingled with lovely floral hints. Moderately weighted and delicately juicy, it's round and perfectly balanced with a sweet mid-palate and a fresh core of fruit that leads to a long, fresh and delicate finish. Although it can wait 1-2 years, it is ready to drink now."
Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with roasted poultry, grilled lamb, or charcuterie. Enjoy now through 2032, developing greater savory and earthy nuances over time.
