Concentrated, Inky, and Structurally Precise

Sourced from the high-altitude Gualtallary district within the Uco Valley, this single-vineyard Malbec delivers a structured, dark-fruited profile. The cooler alpine climate balances concentrated blackberry and plum flavors with a distinctive chalky texture and a fresh line of acidity. Matured for 18 months in new French oak, it integrates oak notes of graphite and sweet spice with firm, fine-grained tannins that make it an excellent choice for cellaring or pairing with rich meats.

Expert Tasting Notes & Estate Reputation

  • 96 Points – James Suckling: "The purity of malbec in this is captivating with aromas and flavors of crushed raspberries and cherries that deliver an energetic, vivid palate with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Yet, it’s always in focus. Drinkable now, but better in 2022."
  • 95 Points – Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There is a great sense of harmony and a combination of power and elegance in the 2017 Terroir Series Malbec Finca Ambrosía. The nose is a bit shy, but the palate is incredibly ethereal while also having concentration and inner power. It has the wild profile of Gualtallary and those textbook, fine tannins with the electricity and tastiness of the limestone soils. 18,000 bottles were filled in April 2019."
  • The Single Vineyard Series: Bodegas Trapiche, founded in 1883, uses its Single Vineyard series to highlight independent growers across Mendoza's distinct sub-regions. Finca Ambrosia is situated at 1,250 meters above sea level in Gualtallary, an area characterized by gravelly, limestone-rich soils that impart a firm structural definition to Malbec.

Highlights

  • 100% Malbec sourced entirely from Finca Ambrosia, an estate property planted in the high-altitude, limestone-rich soils of Gualtallary, Tupungato.
  • Fermented in small concrete vats using indigenous wild yeasts, utilizing a controlled extraction regime to capture fine-grained mineral tannins.
  • Matured for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months of bottle aging before its commercial release.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep, opaque ink-purple with a bright violet rim.
  • Nose: Intense and layered, offering aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum, and black cherry, underscored by notes of violet petals, graphite, tobacco leaf, and cedar wood spice.
  • Palate: Full-bodied, tight, and concentrated. Structured flavors of dark forest fruit and aniseed are held firmly by a core of chalky, mineral tannins and a line of alpine acidity, finishing long with lingering notes of dark chocolate and wood smoke.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at room temperature between 16–18°C.
  • Decanting: Decanting for 45 to 60 minutes is highly recommended to allow the new French oak integration to soften and the tight Gualtallary tannins to expand. Highly suitable for cellar aging over the next 5–10 years.
  • Western Pairing: Complements grilled ribeye steaks, roasted lamb shanks with rosemary, or venison steaks served with a berry reduction.
  • Asian & Cantonese Pairing: The firm tannin structure, full body, and oak spice provide an excellent counterweight to rich, caramelized meat proteins and savory sauces. It pairs reliably well with 蜜汁黑椒燒牛肉 (Sizzling Beef in Honey Black Pepper Sauce), 柱侯牛腩煲 (Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon Pot), or 醬燒黑豚肉 (Miso-Glazed Kurobuta Pork).
