From Wairau River Wines in New Zealand’s Marlborough, the Pinot Noir 2023 is a refined 100% Pinot Noir sourced from estate vineyards across the Wairau Valley on alluvial gravel and clay-loam soils that capture the region’s maritime influences for freshness and intensity. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2023 vintage—characterized by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo destemming and fermentation in open-top fermenters with hand plunging for extraction, followed by 9 months' aging in French oak barriques (25% new) to enhance structure and complexity. Committed to sustainable viticulture since 1978, this production yields a ruby red wine with garnet edges and approachable elegance.
Tasting Notes An elegant, vibrant red with fresh red berries and floral lift, reflecting Marlborough’s cool-climate terroir. The nose reveals raspberry, cherry, and hints of rose and damp earth. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of wild berries, sandalwood, and subtle spice, leading to a long, graceful finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2023 Pinot Noir earned 90 points from The Tasting Panel for its earthy aromas and savory frame.
Serving and Cellaring Serve at 14-16°C with 30-45 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, or charcuterie. Enjoy now through 2033, developing greater earthy and silky nuances over time.
