Blackcurrants, Cedar, Dark Chocolate, and Ningxia Helan Mountain Purity

The 2020 Xige Estate N28 Cabernet Sauvignon is a benchmark, finely structured red from Ningxia's Helan Mountain East Foothills. Sourced from 20-year-old vines, it unfurls aromas of ripe blackcurrants, dark plums, cedar, and fine cocoa. Full-bodied, plush, and balanced, it frames concentrated dark fruit with velvety, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity, finishing with elegant savory length.

Highlights

  • 100% Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from mature 20+ year-old vines in the Dove Mountain (Gezi Shan) sub-region of the Helan Mountain East Foothills.
  • Planted at an altitude of approximately 1,130 meters on stony, well-drained soils rich in gravel and sand, yielding tiny berries with excellent skin-to-juice ratio.
  • High-elevation semi-arid continental climate with intense sunshine and stark diurnal swings, locking in fresh acidity alongside deep phenolic ripeness.
  • Matured for 12 months in French oak barriques to round out the tannins and layer delicate cedar, cocoa, and sweet spice over the core fruit.
  • From the warm, dry 2020 Ningxia vintage; drinking excellently now through 2032+.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby-purple with an opaque core, it opens with pure, focused aromas of ripe cassis, black cherries, and blackberries, seamlessly accented by notes of cedarwood, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, dried mint, and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is full-bodied, dense, and velvety, wrapping concentrated dark berry fruit in a framework of polished, fine-grained tannins and balancing acidity, culminating in a persistent, clean, and gently toasted savory finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 16–18°C in large Bordeaux glassware.
  • Decanting: Decant for 45 minutes to 1 hour to allow its structure and dark fruit aromatics to harmonize. Prime drinking window now through 2032+.
