From Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in France's Alsace region, the Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire 2023 is a refined 100% Pinot Gris sourced from the Roche Calcaire vineyard near Turckheim, on south-facing slopes at 250-300 meters elevation with calcareous limestone soils that impart exceptional freshness and minerality. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2023 vintage—characterized by cool, dry conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo extended pressing, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in old oak barrels, and lees aging to enhance complexity and terroir expression. As a biodynamic pioneer since 1998 under Olivier Humbrecht, this production yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and remarkable purity.

Tasting Notes An elegant, mineral-driven white with vibrant citrus and subtle spice, reflecting Alsace's limestone terroir. The nose reveals lemon zest, white peach, acacia flowers, and hints of flint and white pepper. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and poised, with bright acidity, fine texture, and flavors of green apple, citrus pith, and chalky minerality, leading to a long, saline finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2023 Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire earned 92 points from James Suckling for its vibrant freshness and precise structure.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 10-12°C with 20-30 minutes of chilling to accentuate aromas. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, poultry, or soft cheeses. Enjoy now through 2033, during which it will develop subtle honeyed and nutty nuances.
