From Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in France's Alsace region, the Riesling Roche Granitique 2023 is a refined 100% Riesling sourced from the Roche Granitique vineyard near Turckheim, on steep south-facing slopes at 250-300 meters elevation with pure granite and quartz soils that impart exceptional freshness and smoky character. Hand-harvested grapes from the low-yielding 2023 vintage—characterized by cool, dry conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo extended pressing, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in old oak barrels, and lees aging to enhance complexity and terroir expression. As a biodynamic pioneer since 1998 under Olivier Humbrecht, this production yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and remarkable purity.

Tasting Notes An elegant, vibrant white with intense citrus and smoky granite minerality, reflecting Alsace's granitic terroir. The nose reveals lime zest, green apple, white flowers, and hints of wet granite and smoke. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and tense, with racy acidity, fine texture, and flavors of lemon pith, quince, and chalky minerality, leading to a long, saline finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2023 Riesling Roche Granitique earned 94 points from James Suckling for its vibrant energy and precise structure.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 10-12°C with 20-30 minutes of chilling to accentuate aromas. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with shellfish, grilled fish, or goat cheese. Enjoy now through 2038, during which it will develop enhanced petrol and honeyed nuances.
