Produced by Domaine Le Clos du Caillou, a family-owned estate in Courthézon, Rhône Valley, France, established by the Pouizin family in 1956, the 2024 Côtes du Rhône Le Caillou is a blend primarily of Grenache (70%) with Syrah and Mourvèdre, sourced from 44 hectares of vineyards on sandy and round pebble soils adjacent to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. These soils, certified organic since 2010 and partially biodynamic since 2003, contribute to the wine’s silky texture and finesse. Hand-harvested grapes are destemmed, sorted, and fermented in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts, followed by aging in stainless steel and large foudres for 12-15 months to preserve fruit purity. This sustainable approach captures the 2024 vintage’s balance of ripeness and freshness, resulting in a wine that rivals many Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvées, reflecting the domaine’s reputation for exceptional Côtes du Rhône expressions.

Tasting Notes

This Côtes du Rhône displays a bright ruby hue with aromas of strawberry, cherry, and raspberry, accented by hints of black pepper, thyme, and garrigue herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and juicy, offering flavors of red fruit, subtle spice, and a touch of minerality, supported by fine tannins, balanced acidity, and a smooth, vibrant finish.
