From Nicolas-Jay in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2017 is a refined 100% Pinot Noir blend sourced from estate Bishop Creek Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton AVA and grower sites including Hyland, Knight’s Gambit, and Hopewell on volcanic and marine sedimentary soils that capture the region's cool continental climate for vibrancy and finesse. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2017 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding lighter yet expressive fruit—undergo destemming and fermentation in open-top fermenters with wild yeasts, followed by aging in 33% new French oak barrels to enhance structure without overpowering the fruit. Founded in 2013 by Jean-Nicolas Méo and Jay Boberg, this production emphasizes organic farming and Burgundian techniques, yielding a ruby red wine with garnet edges and poised intensity.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of wild berry, spice, and subtle earth, leading to a long, graceful finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2017 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir earned 92 points from Decanter for its high-toned damp aromas of wet earth, Earl Grey tea, and cocoa nibs with pomegranate and red plum skin flavors.
